Indian Diesel Engine Manufacturers' Association ('IDEMA') was conceptualised in 1967 by Mr. S.L. Kirloskar, the doyen of Indian industry, who also way back in 1947 took the lead and pioneered the manufacture of diesel engines in the country.
The IDEMA is affiliated to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and represents the stationary and non-road use Internal Combustion Engine Industry in India. Our members manufacture engines running on high speed diesel and alternate fuels like Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Bio-diesel blends up to B100.
We are a non-profit society registered under the relevant Indian laws. We receive no donations, or government funding and function on the membership subscription.
Since inception, we are committed to promoting the crucial role of Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) in nation building. In recent times, the role of ICEs has increased from being the nation's infrastructure to now facilitating economic growth. The increased awareness towards environmental issues too is attracting the attention of the Government, which is considering legislating the use of ICEs.
For over 40 years, we have built industry consensus on issues affecting the ICE industry, supported legislators to understand technology and affordability and communicated on issues related to the industry.
In line with the Government of India's decision, we are committed to align with international legislation.
We are the voice of the ICE Industry in all matters related to product regulation in India, and in countries targeted for exports by members. Above mentioned member companies are manufacturing ICEs or components for ICEs, or importing and / or selling ICEs in India.
